Most of our “friends and fans” know that we offer music therapy services for kids and adults with developmental disabilities, but did you know that we offer music lessons as well??
Music education at our main clinic in Annapolis can look like a variety of different ways. If you are interested in piano, guitar, voice or percussion lessons, keep reading…
One of the awesome therapists on the AMT team, Josh Brown, is also a highly skilled music teacher!
Not only is Josh a classically trained vocalist, but he plays many other instruments as well, including guitar, piano, mandolin, ukulele, trumpet and drums/percussion instruments. While Josh was attending Radford University to earn his bachelors in Music Therapy, he enjoyed leading music for student ministries on campus. Learning to play basic chords on the guitar to accompany group singing is a valuable skill that he loves to teach to others! Playing the cajon (pictured – Josh is sitting on one!) or djembe drum in this type of group is also tons of fun and something Josh enjoys teaching to others. Also while at Radford, Josh taught music theory and voice lessons to Performing Visual Arts high school students at the Governor’s School.
After finishing college coursework, he then completed his internship at Kennedy Krieger Institute’s school-based program. With that experience as well as working in Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Josh understands special education services and different types of learning. He is a pro at understanding the unique learning styles of kids with disabilities, and his training in music therapy gives him the perfect skill sets for adapting music lesson material. Joshua believes that every client has unique and beautiful qualities to give to the world around them, and it’s his goal to uncover and cultivate these gifts!
