Lots of catching up with you

If you haven’t been receiving our newsletters, or keeping up with us on social media, it would appear that not much has been happening since renovations on our new clinic space last September…. but au contraire!

OctOctIn our October newsletter we announced the exciting news that we moved into our new clinic at Annapolis Children’s Therapy Center. We got the word out about the amazing Sensory Friendly Concert that happened on October 5th, and lots of other exciting updates.

novNovember’s newsletter was also very exciting. CJ’s marathon fundraising event was a huge success, and she presented at AMTA national conference, “Presuming Competence in our Clients“.

decIn December we sent out a holiday well wishes to our clients, fans, family and friends, and an announcement about our Sensory Friendly Recital that happened on Dec. 6th (and was a huge success!)

We also talked about our opportunity to be a part of an exciting new autism research study on motor differences, through Colorado State University.

janIn the January newsletter we just sent out last week, we had lots more exciting news about two community-based programs we are now launching. One is with Arc of Central Chesapeake and taking place in Annapolis at Maryland Hall.  The other is with Hussman Institute for Autism and taking place near Baltimore and UMBC campus.

As you can see, we’re pretty thrilled and so honored to serve families in our community through music therapy.

Now that I (CJ) am caught up on this blog, it’s time for our first annual #MTadvocacy post. Stay tuned!
And ps, I blog more frequently at The Musical Autist, so make sure to check that out. And if I begin to neglect this blog again, please remind me! 😉

Changes Coming Down the Pike!

September 23, 2014 by CJ Shiloh Leave a Comment

CJ signed the sublease this morning with Annapolis Children’s Therapy Center!! Hooray!!
Our new location is 1911 Lincoln Drive, Annapolis MD 21401

This is the same location we’ve been renting since June, on an hourly basis to see a few clients. Our relationship with ACTC has developed beautifully over the past few months, with opportunities to collaborate with OTs and SLPs on goals and objectives for a couple of our clients. We’re looking forward to more of this collaboration because the children we work with benefit tremendously from this type of teamwork.

New location for MDMT Our new clinic space is behind the door to the right, but families will enter the main ACTC waiting room, on the door to the left.

So nice to have wheelchair accessible parking right in front!

photo 2 (1)This is what our room looked like as of two weeks ago, but starting Sept. 23rd we had a wall added right in the middle, so that we’ll have TWO music therapy clinic rooms. SO convenient that there is a solid brick wall to the right, the most soundproof type of wall you can think of, so we won’t have to worry about disturbing other types of therapy sessions happening at ACTC. (We DO like to bang on drums, that’s for sure!)

photo 2  Everyone at ACTC calls this “the fireplace room”. Next week we’ll be busy painting the two new walls and staining the plywood over the fireplace opening. This room was originally a conference room for a very prestigious business in Annapolis, still not sure why they wanted a fireplace, but the woodworking sure makes the room feel nice and cozy!

AMT1 Here’s what the “inside” of our new walls look like, they’ll have plenty of soundproofing in the middle.

Now the wall are up. From here we just need to paint!

Here’s hoping we can get the painting and moving in accomplished within the next 4 days!!

Our plan is to move in on Monday, October 6th.  That means an extremely busy next week for us, considering that our next SENSORY FRIENDLY CONCERT IS OCT. 5TH!!!

Why the Name Change?

August 25, 2014 by CJ Shiloh 1 Comment

Hello everyone!

I want to briefly share with you the reason behind our recent name change, from “Shiloh Center Music Therapy Services, LLC” to “Annapolis Music Therapy Services.”

I originally opened my music therapy practice in August of 2013 (after 15+ years in music education, but first year officially working as a credentialed music therapist). My business plan was to: run my practice as a single entity and in relation to other projects and vision of my husband and I, surrounding our small urban farm, self-sustainable living, respite care, and animal/horticulture therapies (not board certified fields, but valuable in a holistic approach in therapy nonetheless).

In April and May of 2014 I hired my first two employees. Both Kerry and Molly were recent music therapy graduates who were ready and eager to find work, and with my connections in the community, the opportunity to hire them and find work for them was just too good to pass up.  In June I started thinking about my music therapy practice differently, in a way that was more statewide and accessible to potential clients across a variety of settings, in order to seek more contracts for my faithful employees.

Then a couple weeks ago, when torrential flash flood storms ripped through the Chesapeake Bay region, my music therapy studio was flooded and I had no choice but to look for other location options. In the face of such discouragement and setback for my business, and with an iron-will, I decided THIS was to be the time for the name change to Annapolis Music Therapy!

Truth is, our LLC will remain “Shiloh Center” and our farm name will remain “Shiloh Center Urban Farms.” There will certainly still be lots of music happening here, perhaps even some music therapy services in the future, through “field days” and other outdoor opportunities for natural learning. But I am thrilled to announce that our new, main location will soon be in Annapolis! More details coming soon on that. But for now I just want to give a huge thankful shoutout to Church on the Rock in Millersville (directly across the street from Ruth Parker Eason School), for welcoming me and my clients to use some space for our music therapy sessions on a weekly basis until I finish figuring out the next, new exciting steps for my practice.

I also want to thank Ben Osterhaus of Brand Army for our new logo. Ben is also the logo mastermind behind Musical Autist and OCMT, a couple other organizations I’m involved with. I was very fortunate to connect with him through our mutual friend Mike Ricucci, at Terra Rising.

Thanks so much for your time and interest in the work we are doing in the state of Maryland, through the innovative, evidence-based, cutting edge field of music therapy.
